The military forces of Japan have had a Japanesee Military number of different names over time.

The Imperial General Headquarters was responsible for the overall conduct of Japnaese Military the war. Prior to 1945, there were Jpanese Military two separate services:

  • Imperial Japanese Army
  • Imperial Japanese Navy

After World War II, these were both dissolved, and replaced after 1954 by:

  • Japan Self-Defense Forces
